GUIDED TOURS OF ARDGOWAN HOUSE
The cost of a Private House Tour & Tea (approx. 1hr 30 minutes) conducted by Sir Ludo is £25 per head for parties of 25 or more. For parties numbering less than 25 there is a surcharge of £10 per person with a minimum booking number of 10 guests
Drinks and birthday cakes can be added onto the tour to make your experience extra special. Please contact the office if you would like to discuss the add on-options.
TO SET THE SCENE…
For the first time in 600 years, the family have agreed to open the house up to for access all areas private tours.
Taking advantage of the illustrious, colourful and at times incredible history that is on offer, our guides will transport you back in time with the help of the extraordinary array of relics, documents art and artefacts on view - a collection that can rival those in most national museums.
The Tours are conducted by Sir Ludo, the current Baronet of Ardgowan. Having worked in the art world for 4 years prior to moving up, he has professional experience in the fields of art and architecture.
It is a fascinating story - one that weaves together the fortunes of Robert the Bruce, Princess Pocahontas, Charles I, the Emperor Napoleon and Florence Nightingale amongst others, all played out against a backdrop of polictical and dynastic manoeuvring.
Covering the whole span of human history - from man's earliest beginnings on Bronze Age and Roman settlements discovered on the Estate, through to Viking intervention, medieval fortification, and latterly life in the mansion house, both above and below stairs.
Ardgowan is the greatest historical resource that Inverclyde has to offer and its story is an ongoing one...
The tours take approximately 1hr 30 minutes. It begins with tea & coffee lasting 15-20 minutes in the Willow Room with freshly baked cakes and sandwiches giving you the chance to meet Sir Ludo.
Following Tea, Sir Ludo will begin with a seated 15 minutes introduction into the prehistory of the Estate in the Myrtle Room before continuing the story as you explore the house.
