The house and estate, which dates back to the 15th Century, make an excellent and accessible film and TV location. The estate boasts an ancient keep and 18th Century stable block together with 400 acres of park with unmetalled tracks which wind through the woodland.

All rooms and accommodation in Ardgowan House are decorated and furnished in authentic period style. The house and policies have been used as the set for period dramas and crime series - namely The Strange Case of Sherlock Holmes and Arthur Conan Doyle, Taggart, Rebus, Days That Shook the World, Still Game, and most recently, Garrow's Law and Imagine Van Gogh.
