Above the door at Frost Pocket Cottage there is a datestone with the date "1797" emblazoned on it which marks the completion date of this building. This cottage was therefore the first house to be built on the Estate when the Park at Ardgowan was redesigned by Sir John Shaw Stewart between 1797-1804

Fun Facts

Frost Pocket Cottage was built as the Lodge House at the North entrance to the Park and was traditionally the Game Keeper's residence from the 18th-20th centuries. Before the 18th century this area was known simply as "The Park" and it was the site of a medieval well which still exists under the floor of the kitchen at Frost Pocket Cottage.
